Hasan shines for Zone-II

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, June 26: Hasan Abbas scored an unbeaten 53 to help Zone-I pull off an incredible two-wicket win against defending champions Zone-II in two-day Karachi region fixture of the PCB Under-19 Inter-district cricket championship at the Student sports ground on Sunday.

Resuming at 77 for three on the final day, Zone-I soon stumbled to 143 for eight while chasing 188. But Hasan kept his composure intact as he found a reliable ally in Tabish Nawab. The pair added 45 precious runs for the unfinished ninth stand with Tabish scoring just six of them. Hasan, meanwhile, struck eight boundaries in 87-ball knock.

Shahmir Khattak, off-spinner, failed to add to his three wickets taken on Saturday. However, he was tidy as his 42 overs yielded only 75. Slow left-armer Athar Hussain also impressed with two for 37 in 21.5 overs.

Summarised scores:

At Student Sports Ground: ZONE-II 185 in 57.3 overs (Faraz Feroz 65, Hammad Khan 35, Farhan Rafiq 35; Tabish Nawab 5-48, Hafiz Asad 3-24); ZONE-I 188-8 in 68.5 overs (Hasan Abbas 53 not out, Hamzaul Hasan 41, Sunil Parwan 31, Hafiz Asad 20; Shahmir Khattak 3-75, Athar Hussain 2-37).
