WASHINGTON, Jun 26: Former law minister Senator S.M. Zafar has said that present government had many positive accomplishments to its credit, including outstanding economic performance, and credibility and image-building of Pakistan.

“The image of Pakistan was high today, and the comity of nations acknowledge our country’s vital importance,” he told a large gathering of scholars and intelectuals, and Pakistani community.

Addressing the Pakistani American Congress, he said “with the only super power of the day — United States, Pakistan has the best of close and cordial relations; while with the fast emerging future super power, i.e. China, Pakistan has time-tested and everlasting friendship.”

He referred to various positive economic indicators, and added, that independent and prestigious international institutions have adjudged Pakistan as “the second fastest growing economy in Asia,” at 8.4 per cent of growth rate for the past two years, “and, which the goverment is determined to sustain.”

“Don’t try to create frustration among Pakistanis, for they are positivley convinced what their government is doing for them,” Mr Zafar said.

The need of the hour, he said was to give more confidence to the people.

He said out of 56 Islamic states with 1.5 billion population, Pakistan is the only nuclear power. “It was said that the time of partition that Pakistan even does not know how to manufacture a needle. Now the same nation could become a nuclear state.”—APP
