QUETTA, June 26: Pakistan Muslim League Secretary-General Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed said on Saturday that the Balochistan Public Sector Development Programme should be based on parity and all the coalition partners and the opposition should be accommodated in it.
Speaking at a press conference before his departure for Islamabad at the Quetta Airport after meeting the group of dissident PML ministers and MPAs, he said differences in the party had been removed.
He said the group had ended its boycott of the budget session of the provincial assembly.
He said that he had held a meeting with the group at the residence of provincial Minister Mir Abdul Rehman Jamali and discussed all the contentious issues.
“There was weight in the arguments of the members of the group about the situation in the province,” he said.
He said all the issues were discussed in the presence of Chief Minister Jam Yousuf.
The PML secretary-general said the meeting observed that there should no injustice with any one and all issues should be resolved on the basis of equality.
He said the same principle would be applied in jobs and all the parties in the coalition would be given share.
He said the proposals of the opposition parties should be given importance and development schemes of their constituencies should be included in the development programme.
He said development funds did not belong to one person or party and those were provided for the development of the whole province. “We should think above the interests of the political parties in this regard,” he remarked.
He said he would talk to the prime minister about the complaints about some bureaucrats.
He said the chief minister had been consulted on the issues and it had been decided that affairs of the government and the party would be run through consultation and understanding and there would be no injustice with any coalition partner or the opposition.
He said that during his visit to Dera Bugti he had updated Jamhoori Watan Party chief Nawab Akbar Bugti about the parliamentary committee’s report on Balochistan approved two days back. He said the sub-committee led by him had presented its report. He said the report had been prepared by a committee comprising three opposition senators — Prof Khurshid Ahmed, Raza Mohammad Raza and Mir Mohammad Aslam Buledi — while the government was represented by Senator Saeed Ahmed Hashmi, Dilawar Abbas and him.
He said all the stakeholders, including the provincial government, the Frontier Corps, the Coast Guards and the opposition parties, participated in the deliberations and presented their point of view.
He said the real task would be the implementation of the recommendations and decisions of the committee.
He said the governments in the past had tried to resolve issues through the use of force but no such mistake would be repeated.
He said the committee led by Senator Wasim Sajjad was working on constitutional issues.
He said he believed that strong provinces were needed for a strong Pakistan.
Robina Irfan, Dr Ruqayia Hashmi, Mir Abdul Rehman Khan Jamali, Mir Jan Mohammad Khan Jamali, Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhel, Mohammad Younus Changezi, Sardar Masood Khan Luni, Syed Sher Jan Baloch, Mir Tariq Ali Magsi and Shah Zaman Rind of the dissident group and Senator Saeed Ahmed Hashmi attended the meeting.
Mr Mandokhel told newsmen after a meeting of the group on Sunday that the senator had visited Quetta as special representative of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain to resolve the problems being faced by the party in the province.
He said the PML secretary-general would be the guarantor for the implementation of the decisions taken in Saturday’s meeting.
Mr Mandokhel said the senator had held out the assurance that all the decisions would be implemented and other issues being faced by the PML in the province would also be resolved.
He said it was decided that the Public Sector Development Programme would be revised on the basis or parity to do justice with the PML and opposition parties.
“Development funds should not be released until the revision of the programme,” PML leader Mir Tariq Ali Magsi said.
Former chief minister Mir Jan Mohammad Jamali said the opposition should be given its share in the budget.
The group condemned the rocket attack on the house of the chief minister in Kalat and termed it a cowardly act. “Attack on women and children is a heinous crime in our traditional society,” it said and demanded that those involved in the act should be punished.
