Protest against demolition of kachi abadi

By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, June 26: Residents of the Katcha Bunder took out a procession against the taluka nazim on Sunday and reached the residence of former federal minister Islamuddin Shaikh.

More than 100 notices have been issued to residents of the Katcha Bunder to vacate their houses.

Mr Shaikh said legal and ethical help would be extended to residents and no one would be allowed to remove the inmates who were residing there since last 40 years.

Addressing a press conference, he said the irrigation department with the connivance of the taluka nazim wanted to sale the plots to the builder mafia.

He said the government had provided them with electricity, gas and other civic amenities while many of them were even paying property tax.

Mr Shaikh said the government for rigging local bodies elections had engaged in sparking hatred among the Sindhi and Urdu-speaking population by dividing Sukkur into urban and rural areas.

He said the division of city would be resisted strongly.
