PESHAWAR, June 25: Water flow is increasing in the river Kabul and its tributaries which has inundated seven villages and damaged crops on a vast tract in Charsadda district, said the NWFP Flood Relief Commission.

The NWFP Flood Warning Centre reported that the river was in high flood at Nowshera where the discharge was recorded at 134,300 cusecs at 7pm. The official forecast that the water level will rise to 140,000 cusecs.

According to an official statement, the floodwater had damaged several houses and destroyed crops on a vast area along riverbanks.

The seven villages identified by the relief commission to have inundated are Nisaata, Mira Prang, Kurakai, Dalazak, Adanzai, Tarrakha and Agra. However, no casualties have come to light.

Anticipating more floods during the moonsoon, the federal government has sought assistance from international agencies for the construction of protective spurs and embankments along the riverbanks, Federal Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao said.
