LAHORE, June 25: Dark-bay filly, Mumtaz Mahal, who posted an amazing victory in her outing on June 5 last, looks poised to win the feature event during the Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.
She is contesting in the Teletec Nokia Trophy, a class IV division I & II combined handicap race to be run over the sprinting distance of 1200 metres.
The filly from Sinjab out-of-Silver Bells, Mumtaz Mahal ran a memorable race to win the Sahiwal Plate, defeating Red Rock by a big margin of six lengths on June 5.
Although promoted in the weight scales, she looks still the best on handicap in the field, which is almost the same. The same field had finished far behind that day (June 5). Only some hanky panky can defeat the filly named after the beautiful Moghul empress.
Among her seven rivals barring last-minute withdrawals, only Red Rock is worth mentioning, who had finished second six lengths behind to get the second position. Others are just to make the company.
This will be the sixth and the last race of as many races card laid down for decision in the afternoon.
The three-year-old filly, Chici Chitta, who ran a splendid race to win the Kalat Plate over 1000 metres defeating Penalty Corner by six lengths on June 5 last will be going all out to make it two in a row.
She is contesting in the Nokia 6630 Cup, a class IV division 111 handicap race to be run over 1200 metres.
This filly from Cisco Wells-out-of-Alert Voyager, Chici Chitta looks a cut above in class vis-a-vis her seven rivals, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.
Chici Chitta is from the last crop of prized sire, Cisco Wells, a son of Sadler Wells. Cisco Wells’ death was a great blow to owner Syed Parvaiz Hussain Shah. By any standards Cisco Well was a great horse, whose progenies have stirred the hearts of many a fan even till today.
Eight-year-old mare, Lovely Diana, outclassed her rivals on Sunday last in a race over 1200 metres. She is again on chance and may make it two in a row in the opener to be run over 900 metres.
Shadow Snatcher, Mohabatain and Kaainat should fight for the frame. Storm Warning, All At Sea and Russian Rhythm are the speedy animals in the second race. They should fight for picking up the spoils.
Phoenix, Mera Chandiwala, Little Hut and Stride To Moment are the form animals in the third race. The real fight, however, should be between Phoenix and Little Hut.
Persian Bold, Weldon Shogun, Happy Moon and Royal Performance are the speedy contenders in the fourth race. Persian Bold looks on the advantageous side.
A card of six events, four races to be gone over 900 metres and two over 1200 metres will be decided in the afternoon. The first race will be held at 2.30pm.
