LAHORE, June 25: Pakistan Navy and Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) will play another match to decide who will earn slot in the Stage-II of First National football Challenge Cup after a 1-1 draw in a semifinal of Pool D at a Karachi Centre on Saturday.

The encounter ended 1-1 and Organizing Committee ordered a replay, said a spokesman of the Pakistan Football Federation here. Earlier in the second semifinal Sindh Government Press edged out PWD 2-1.

Skipper Rana Zahir Ahmed, former international striker of Pakistan, surged Navy ahead with 40th minute goal. Navy led 1-0 at interval but KESC went all out in quest of equalizer in the second session and fast-moving striker Shakir Lashari restored parity in the 80th minute.

It was Shakir’s sixth goal of the competition and he is leading the scorers list at Karachi Centre.

The match was locked 1-1 at the end of 90-minutes play while half-an-hour extra time also failed to provide any goal. Due to murky conditions, KESC players refused to go for penalty-kick session. The Organizing Committee have no alternative but to order a replay

Meanwhile at Quetta’s Ayub Stadium, Pakistan Police thrashed Balochistan Club 4-0 with goals by Nasibullah ( 30th min), Saeed (53rd min), Nawaz (71st min) and Attaullah( 84th min). The disjointed loser failed to provide any resistance and conceded three second half goals.

Chaman’s Afghan Club failed to beat Baloch Club of Quetta despite keeping their lead intact for 74 minutes. Abdul Momam opened the scoring in the 8th minute while Tehseen drew level in the 82nd minute. It was second straight drawn game for Afghan Club in the competition.—APP
