Gadoon hit by water shortage

By Our Correspondent

SWABI, June 25: The people of Gadoon Amazai mountainous region are facing shortage of drinking water. Majority of the villages in the Gadoon belt lack potable water facilities but a few are getting water through the Utla Water Supply System under which water is supplied from the Utla Badri by pipes.

Wells are very rare in the region because it is difficult to dig in the mountainous terrain. Due to the continued hot spell and delay in rains the water level in Utla Badri is falling fast resulting in the decreased water supply.

In each village people had constructed water storages from where women take water in pitches. Moreover the people say villagers are prone to water borne diseases due to the open water storages.

Villagers say that they were facing water problem for the last two weeks and further delay in rains would put them at the receiving end.
