Anti-Taliban offensive wound up


KANDAHAR, June 24: A group of top Taliban commanders appeared to have slipped the net on Friday as Afghan and US forces wrapped up one of the bloodiest offensives since the fall of the government.

Defence officials in Kabul said earlier that soldiers had surrounded four Taliban chiefs holed up in southern Afghanistan’s mountains, including the brother-in-law of Mullah Mohammad Omar.—AFP
