Nadia sets new national mark


KARACHI, June 24: M Nadia set a new national mark in the ladies rifle contest on the opening day of the 12th Sindh national shooting at Naval Shooting Range on Friday. Nadia improved her own record by two points accumulating 585 out of 600 points. Nausheen finished second and Habira Yaqoob made it to third spot.

Talented Ahmed Sultan clinched the skeet gold by a fine score of 92/100. Two points adrift Amin Karamat was second while national champion Muhammad Shafiq was third with 87/100.

Newcomer Rashid surprised veteran Dawood Jan grabbing the men’s rifle event with 583/600. Dawood finished second.

Kashif Riaz surprised Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Irshad Ali by pocketing the standard pistol gold with 547/600. Irshad was second, three points behind.

A total of 150 shooters from Wapda, Navy, Punjab, Balochistan, Army and hosts Sindh are taking part in men’s, women’s and juniors’ competitions which conclude on Sunday.

Results:

Skeet: Ahmed Sultan 92/100, Amin Karamat 90/100, M Shafiq 87/100.

Standard pistol: Kashif Riaz 547/600, Irshad Ali 545/600, M H Tabbsum 543/600.

Men’s rifle: Rashid Ali 583/600, Dawood Jan 574/600, Rajab Ali 572/600.

Ladies rifle: M Nadia 585/600, Nausheen 568/600, Habira Yaqoob 567/600.—APP
