Karo-kari: two women injured

NAWABSHAH, June 24: Two women were injured when they were shot at after being dubbed as karis in Moharram Shar village near Kot Laloo about 60kms from here on Thursday.

Ubaidullah Shar shot his wife Hidayat Khatoon, 40, and her sister Kazbano, wife of Abdul Razzaq, on the pretext of karo-kari. Both the women were seriously injured and admitted to the People’s Medical College hospital in the critical condition.

The in-charge of the police post, Kot Laloo, Mazhar Jatoi, told Dawn that the accused had been taken into custody and police were waiting for formal lodging of an FIR in this connection.

STRIKE: A complete shutter-down strike was observed in Qazi Ahmed on Friday in protest against poor sanitation conditions in the town.

Residents also staged a protest demonstration against the Daulatpur taluka administration.

The chairman of the action committee, Haji Khan Lakho, led the protesters.

They said there were heaps of garbage everywhere and gutter water was standing in streets creating health hazards for the people.

They demanded that the taluka municipal administration should clean the town.

CONTRABAND: Adviser to Sindh chief minister on excise and taxation M.A. Jalil has said that jobs will be provided to youth on merit after lifting a ban on recruitments.

He was speaking at a ceremony of torching of 2,200kg confiscated charas held in the jurisdiction of the session’s court here on Friday.

The adviser was accompanied by Sindh excise secretary Mir Hussain Ali and the director of the excise department, Sukkur division, Mr Abdul Hayee Dhamrah.

He said a notification regarding lifting of a ban on recruitments had not yet reached his office and the vacancies would be filled after the notification.
