KARACHI: Reward money for arrest of killers


KARACHI, June 24: Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqi has announced an increase in the amount of reward money for the arrest of killers of Mufti Jamilur Rehman, Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai and Maulana Qasmi.

Chairing a high-level meeting with reference to obtaining law and order situation held here on Friday, the minister said that the reward money was being enhanced for its being an effective mode to reach the killers. He said that the police officials, who would arrest the killers, would be given out of turn promotions.

The home minister pointed out that after the tragic assassinations of these religious scholars and the delay in the arrest of assassins, the heirs of martyrs had a right to question about the progress made in connection with the arrest of killers.

He directed the officials concerned that attention should be paid to each case separately and the pace of investigation in each case be accelerated.

He announced an increase in the amount of reward money from Rs0.5 to Rs2 million for the arrest of killers of Mufti Jamilur Rehman, Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai and Maulana Qasmi.

Rauf Siddiqi offered that if any of the culprits from among the killers would cooperate with the government and identify them, the government would not only allow them legal concessions, but also their names would be kept secret.

He pointed out that tragic assassination of a scholar amounted to irreparable loss of entire nation.
