Insurance claims denied

Published June 24, 2005

LAHORE, June 23: Families of 15 farmers are facing problems in securing life insurance claims from a private company. Farmers had bought life insurance policies from the Karachi-based Metropolitan Life Assurance Company two years ago, but after their deaths, their families did not get the claims despite submitting required documents to the company.

Rana Amjad Ali told Dawn that his father (Nassru Khan of Chunian) had obtained the policy through a Bolan Bank scheme about two years ago.

He said he had submitted all required documents to a bank branch after his father’s death a year ago, but he had yet to receive the claim.

A Bolan Bank official claimed that since the bank had refused to give more business to the company a couple of months ago, it had started using delaying tactics in releasing the claim of those clients who had bought the insurance policies through the bank.
