ISLAMABAD, June 23: Former minorities minister and candidate for Nobel peace prize Julius Salik has started sitting on ‘ash’ at his residence from Thursday to press the government for the rights of minorities and the underprivileged. According to a press statement issued here on Thursday, Mr Salik said minorities were ignored in the recent budget. Sanitary workers are facing tough working conditions and are being paid only Rs1,700 per month, he added.

Children are being employed in violation of labour laws, and slums hare deprived of even basic facilities, he said.

Mr Salik also said minorities had not been given due representation in the National Assembly.
