KARACHI, June 23: The Sindh Environment Department, in collaboration with the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Council, will work on mega projects, with special emphasis on solar energy. In this regard Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister for Environment and Alternate Energy Muhammad Noman Saigol paid a visit to the Suparco office, where he was given a presentation.

On this occasion, the adviser said there was a vast scope of harnessing solar energy in the various parts of Sindh, including Tharparkar, Dadu, the sun used to shine on 300 days out of 365 days of the year. He said that electricity and alternative energy projects based on solar energy would be set up after inking an accord in this regard with Suparco.

He said that disposal of industrial waste, testing of pollution-spreading wastes and their disposal, and assessment of water quality were the other areas of special interest to lessen the environmental pollution. He said that the technical support would be sought from Supraco and it would be considered to send officials of the environment department to other countries on training programs.

Earlier, the provincial adviser reached the Suparco head office, where he was received by Suparco Chairman Maj-Gen Razza Hussain and other senior officers. He also visited various units of the Suparco, including environmental and mobile laboratories, and IT unit. He was given a briefing by the Suparco chairman on issues including pollution monitoring and Suparco’s services.— PPI
