KARACHI: City nazim opens park, second chest pain centre
KARACHI, June 22: The City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, inaugurated the city’s 12th model park named after late Aslam Mujahid in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Wednesday.
Addressing a ceremony then, Mr Niamat described public enthusiasm for the model parks as highly encouraging and an acknowledgement of the performance of the city government.
Later talking to journalists, the city nazim said the construction of model parks and other one would add to the city’s beauty besides reducing pollution.
In addition to parks, he said, attention was also being paid to plantation, adding that a forest plan was in the planning stage.
He said that sanitary conditions in the city had been improved as compared to the past, with a reduction in garbage dumps here and there.
Mr Niamat said various proposals were under consideration for establishing an effective sanitation system for the city.
Earlier, the Adviser to Chief Minister, Fatima Surayya Bajiya, underlined the need for establishing an environment of love in Karachi.
FAMILY PARK: Niamatullah Khan also laid the foundation stone of a recreational family park in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Tuesday.
Speaking at the ceremony, he said people belonging to all walks of life including industrialists, intellectuals, journalists and businessmen should play their due role towards the development and progress of Karachi.
“The place where they stand today is only and only due to Karachi and they must now repay this debt they owe to Karachi.”
The park for families and children will be constructed with the cooperation of the City Development Citizens Community Board and the Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town. Funds would be contributed by the board and the town at a 40:60 ratio.
The park, having a library and cultural centre, will be constructed on an area of 1.75 acres at a cost of Rs4 million.
Mr Niamat said their city government had demonstrated and practised good governance, which found no parallel in the history of Pakistan.
“Not a single paisa out of the city government’s budget of billions of rupees has been misappropriated, as we firmly believe that we not only have to be accountable to our people, but to Allah as well.”
He said it was this belief they worked with, and that not only were development works taking place everywhere in Karachi, but they were duly and openly acknowledged by people as well.
The Nazim Gulshan Town, Abdul Wahab, said it was the first town of Karachi, which had launched a project with the cooperation of the Citizens Community Board.
The Vice-Chancellor of the Urdu varsity, Dr Iqbal Mohsin, present then welcomed the establishment of a library saying it was a good omen in a period in which reading and books were diminishing.
The President of the Citizens Community Board, Mohammed Iqbal, and Osama Bin Razi also spoke.
Present also on the occasion were Nazim Liaquatabad Town Dr Pervez Mahmood, Lifetime President of the Horticulture Society of Pakistan A.K. Khan, MPA Yunus Barai, and a large number of people.
CHEST PAIN CENTRE: Mr Niamat inaugurated the second chest pain centre, out of the 10 such centres planned by the city government, at a simple ceremony in Korangi No 5-1/2 on Tuesday.
Constructed on 7,065 sq-ft, the centre has cost Rs6 million, which was provided by MNA Aisha Munawwar out of her minister’s fund. The centre also has a maternity home.
The ceremony was attended by Town Nazim Korangi Abdul Jameel Khan, Town Nazim Landhi Mohammed Shahid, Chairman Health Committee Nasreen Anjum, and a large number of female councillors.
It may be mentioned here that the late Aslam Mujahid had proposed the constituency he lived as a place for one of the chest pain centres, and the same was completed by MNA Aisha Munawwar from her minister’s fund for development.
Mr Niamat announced that the centre would be named after the late Aslam Mujahid.—APP
