KARACHI: Bathing banned along 3 beaches

KARACHI, June 22: Karachi’s three beaches — Neelam Point, Cape Mount and Sonehra Point — have been closed for bathing for two months because of high tide, while people can go for picnic on other beaches from 9am to 7pm.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Adviser for Local Government Waseem Akhtar here on Wednesday.

The meeting was convened to take steps for public safety at the city’s beaches and attended, among others, by DCO Karachi, officials of the city government, police officials of Docks and Keamari Town besides volunteers of PALS Life Guards and Edhi’s representatives.

It was decided that a focal person would remain present at the beaches for coordination between all the organizations such as ther city government, police, Edhi and NGOs during any emergency or unforeseen occurrence.

In the meeting the city government was specially directed to display signboards and banners for public guidance in these areas while due publicity would be carried out through electronic and print media to make the people well aware of the hazards.— PPI
