KARACHI, June 21: A women’s convention will be held here on June 25 at Nishtar Park under the auspices of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement to highlight political, social and economic awareness among women of Sindh. This was stated by deputy convenor of Muttahida’s Coordination Committee and its parliamentary leader in the national assembly, Dr Farooq Sattar in a press conference at Nine Zero on Tuesday.

Dr Farooq Sattar was confident that the convention, which many analyst believe would be the forerunner of MQM’s local body election campaign in the city, would be a historic event and women would fully participate in the programme to express their love and affection with party chief Altaf Hussain.

He said that the Muttahida had organised various public meetings for women only, which were attended by a very large number of women.

Dr Sattar said that the Muttahida was in favour of giving equal rights to women and it had also mentioned this thing in its manifesto, as the party believed that national growth could not be achieved without the equal participation of women.

He said the party wanted a system in which women could play their due role freely in the country’s progress.

Dr Farooq Sattar said that Muttahida was for a reasonable representation for women in army and other defence organisations.

He appealed to women belonging to all segments of society to participate in the Muttahida Women Convention to make the event successful.
