KARACHI, June 21: The Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad, on Monday directed concerned officials to take all possible measures for holding the local bodies’ election in a peaceful environment. Ibad hoped that people and particularly political and social leaders would offer their cooperation in this regard.
He was presiding over a meeting at the Governor’s House to review the prevailing law and order situation in the province.
The governor said a fair, transparent and unbiased environment would be provided to people for participating in the coming local government polls.
He said a comprehensive strategy should be devised for the province by considering all aspects so that people could use their right to vote in the elections in a pleasant atmosphere.
The meeting also reviewed the situation that followed some incidents, which took place in Karachi last week. The meeting expressed satisfaction over the fact that there was improvement in the situation.
In this regard, Ibad praised the efforts of the law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order.
He directed that action against elements involved in crime and terrorist acts should continue without yielding to any pressure.
The Home Minister, Rauf Siddiqui, Chief Secretary Fazalur Rehman, Principal Secretary Brig Akhtar Zamin, City Police Chief and others were present.
Earlier, the IG of Police, Asad Jahangir, DG-Rangers Maj-Gen Javed Zia and Home Secretary Brig Ghulam Mohammad Mohtaram briefed the governor about the prevailing law and order situation, and apprised him of steps taken in that regard.—APP
