JACOBABAD, June 19: A man was killed and two others were injured when an 11kv cable fell on the main chowk of Kandhkot town on Sunday. Naik Mohammad Bakhrani along with his family members was busy shopping when the wire fell on him. He died on the spot.

A woman, Raheema Khoso, and a five-year-old girl, Ameera, were injured.

Police reached the place and shifted the body and the injured to the civil hospital.

A large number of people gathered at the main chowk and took out a procession in protest against Hesco.

They said many complaints regarding old and worn out cables had been made with Hesco officials but no step was taken and their negligence led to this incident.

They demanded that action should be taken against responsible officials.

Hesco chief Adeebul Hassan Rizvi announced Rs100,000 as compensation for relatives of the deceased and Rs25,000 for each injured.

Mr Rizvi also constituted an inquiry team headed by a superintending engineer.
