REMAND EXTENDED: An area magistrate has extended till Monday (today) the physical remand of former Kharian tehsil nazim Nadeem Asghar Kaira in an abduction case lodged with the Baghbanpura police station.
The case under sections 364 and 324 of the PPC against the former tehsil nazim was registered on the complaint of Mian Idrees, a union council naib nazim of Kharian tehsil.
Mian Idrees alleged in his FIR that he was also a complainant against Nadeem Kaira in another case of anti-corruption establishment.
He said that he and his companions were returning home after attending the hearing of a case when Nadeem Kaira and his four accomplices intercepted their car (GTB-2888) in Gujranwala. He said the accused dragged his servant Shah Nawaz out of the car, bundled him into their vehicle and escaped.
Later, he said the police had arrested Kaira and obtained his three-day physical remand. After expiry of the remand, the police again produced Kaira in area magistrate’s court and obtained his remand for another two days.
Meanwhile, Gujrat DPO Raja Munawar Husain told journalists that action against the tehsil nazim had not been started suddenly, but he and some of his relatives were involved in illegal activities.
The DPO said that a legal action was being taken against suspended Kharian tehsil nazim Nadeem Asghar Kaira for his involvement in different cases.
He said the PPP was busy in false propaganda against the police and some politicians only to highlight the issue in the media and to pressurize the government.
The Kharian Cantonment police, he said, had registered a case No 68 against Nadeem Kaira and others when they attacked on the police station and thrashed SHO Ghulam Jaffar Cheena on April 13.
He said the accused had tried to get released PPP office-bearer Zia forcibly, but they could not succeed when policemen and SHO Cheena resisted their attempt.
On May 14, 2005, he said that Railways assistant engineer Mian Saeed had came to Lalamusa for demarcation of the land leased out to a man of Jhelum. But, he alleged, that over 150 miscreants led by MNA Qamar Zaman Kaira and MPA Tanvir Ashraf Kaira reached the place and interfered in the official work of the railways.
Upon this, the Lalamusa police had registered a case against law-breakers, including former municipality vice-chairman Sheikh Abdul Khalil.
The DPO said the Baghbanpura police had registered a case against Nadeem Kaira for abducting a man.
