KARACHI: Altaf pays tribute to ’92 operation victims

KARACHI, June 19: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain said that June 19 was the blackest day in the history of the party’s movement when it was subjected to worst kind of state operation for waging a struggle against age-old exploitative system of feudalism.
In a statement issued on 13th anniversary of the June 19th operation against the MQM, Altaf Hussain said that “criminals and those expelled” from the party for their alleged criminal activities were brought in trucks and were given a free hand to unleash a reign of terror on Haq Parast supporters.
Mr Hussain said that the party could never forget sacrifices of those who were martyred and uprooted in that operation and vowed to continue their mission.
Paying tribute to their valour, he said that tyranny and barbaric actions would never deter Haq Parasts from continuing their struggle.
To mark the occasion, Quran khwani was held at Khurshid Memorial Hall, Azizabad, besides the zonal offices of the party in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Badin, Sanghar, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Naushero Feroze, Ghotki, Khairpur, Nawabshah, Kashmore and Shahdadkot.
Meanwhile, addressing the 27th founding day function of the All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organization in London, Altaf Hussain stressed that Asian Union should be formed on the pattern of the European Union and called upon both India and Pakistan accept the reality of partition and shun their mutual differences.
He emphasized that mutual friendship and cooperation between India and Pakistan was essential for peace and stability in South Asia.
Mr Hussain stressed that Kashmir belonged to Kashmiris and India and Pakistan should desist from imposing any decision on them. He said that Kashmiris were the principal party and should be included in the negotiating process. He said that whatever Kashmiri people decided about their future must be accepted by India and Pakistan and the world at large.
He also appealed to Kashmiri leaders to iron out their differences and unite on one agenda to succeed in their objective.
He maintained that India and Pakistan must proceed in improving their relations by accepting the reality of partition and that war had never resolved any problems. Both of them being nuclear power, must learn from the history of the European nations who lost millions of lives and saw a massive destruction during the two world wars but now they were talking of friendship.
They now have common currency and they were talking of joint defence. He regretted that some elements in Pakistan and India were still advocating militancy. “We must leave the path of acrimony and promote friendship,” he said.
Altaf Hussain demanded that NFC award should be announced soon so that misgivings of smaller provinces were addressed.
