KARACHI: Education officials accused of corruption
KARACHI, June 19: The central leaders of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers’ Association (SPLA) have accused some education department’s officials of taking bribes. The SPLA office-bearers in their joint statement issued here on Sunday, alleged that according to what they called a “confirmed information” the clerks and other staff of a relevant section were extorting Rs10,000 per head from the newly appointed lecturers on ad hoc basis or through the public service commission for their postings.
Expressing their surprise over the mysterious silence of the high-ups of the department over this bribery issue, they alleged that the corrupt officials had earned Rs5 to 6 million through these corrupt practices.
They appealed to the Sindh governor, chief minister and chief secretary to take notice of this issue and form a committee to conduct an inquiry into the matter—PPI
