Sniffer dogs bring police to dock again
SIALKOT, June 18: In yet another shocking incident for police, sniffer dogs on Saturday led an investigation team to a police check post while tracing the footsteps of some dacoits. The pack of dogs, which was called from Islamabad to trace the dacoits who plundered Rs500,000 worth dowry from former serviceman Khalid Mahmood’s house at Sungrapur-Phalora village the other day, led the law-enforcers to the main gate of the Tharo Mandi police check post in Pasrur.
Two weeks ago, Uggoki police had to face embarrassment before the public when sniffer dogs exposed them during a hunt for robbers who took away cash and valuables from the houses of two landlords.
Reports about the recent incident said five dacoits plundered valuables worth Rs500,000 from Khalid Mehmood’s house the other day. On his request, the police called sniffer dogs from Islamabad to track down culprits.
The dogs started tracing the footsteps of the suspects in the presence of the area people and ended up at the main gate of the Tharo Mandi police check post.
Appalled by the disclosure, the police tried to placate the people who were convinced that the police were involved in the incident and demanded that the culprits be unveiled.
It is the second incident of its kind in the district in a fortnight.
The previous incident took place on June 2 when sniffer dogs led the police to the main gate of the Uggoki police station, showing that the dacoits had entered the building after a strike.
Unidentified armed men had skipped away with cash, jewellery and other valuables worth Rs1 million from the houses of landlords, Rana Bashir Ahmad and Sarfraz Ahmad.
On the demand of the area people, inspector Abdul Razzaq Warraich, the Uggoki police station SHO, produced the officials for identification but to no avail.
