US offers scholarships to Pakistani graduates

ABBOTTABAD, June 18: Hundreds of Pakistani graduates will be provided an opportunity under the Fulbright Scholarship programme worth $75 million to get higher education in American universities, United States Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker said on Saturday. Speaking at a seminar organized by the Hazara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he said members the US business community were coming forward to join hands with their Pakistani counterparts in different fields.

He said the US government had extended huge financial and technical support for water projects under the Poverty Alleviation Fund. He said 60 of the projects were in the NWFP.

The ambassador stressed the importance of people-to-people contacts.

HCCI President Jehanzeb Khan said doors were open for foreign investors in different fields, especially hydroelectric power and mineral sector. He said technical support was needed of exploration of minerals like black granite. He said more than 70 per cent of the minerals were wasted because of use of old means of exploration.
