KARACHI: Setting up of filter plants ordered

KARACHI, June 18: The Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad, on Saturday taking stern notice of supply of contaminated water in some areas of the metropolis, directed concerned departments to install filter plants. He instructed the Chief Secretary, Fazalur Rehman, to start work on installation of filter plants under the ‘Safe Drinking Water Project’, by next month.

He also asked him to seek co-operation of the federal government for an early progress in this regard.

Ibad hoped that the installation of filter plants in various city areas would facilitate people in getting potable water supply. He asked concerned officials to take measures for creating awareness among the masses for purifying water through boiling and other means.

Meanwhile, talking to the public during his visits to various localities in the city, the governor said the government’s main focus were the education and health sectors, besides supply of clean water to the masses.

He reviewed sanitary conditions, traffic flow and other problems of the city during his visit.

Ibad stressed the need for considering people’s wishes in public welfare projects, besides directing elected representatives and officials to keep in direct contact with the masses.

Separately, a delegation of industrialists and traders, led by noted industrialist S.M. Munir, called on the governor at the Governor’s House.

Talking to the delegation, the governor said the government had allocated special funds for developing the infrastructure of industrial areas.—PPI
