KARACHI: Policeman killed as rifle goes off

KARACHI, June 18: A policeman was killed when a rifle, he was holding, went off all of a sudden in Korangi here on Saturday. Police said that head constable Saeed Ahmed, 35, was the driver of a police mobile van. As the van reached Chamra Chowrangi during a routine patrolling, the driver stopped it and parked along the road. His colleagues also sat in the mobile van and everything was normal. All of a sudden, the rifle of Saeed went off and a bullet pierced through his chest.

A police official said: “We are probing the incident to know whether it the rifle went off accidentally or Saeed committed suicide.”

BODY FOUND: The charred body of a young girl was found at a derilect place in Sachal police limits on Saturday.

Police said the girl, in her late teens, was found in the bushes. She was burnt to death and the body was dumped. It was shifted to JPMC for autopsy and later kept at Edhi morgue for identification.

ACCIDENT: An eight-year-old girl died after a truck ran over her in Baghdadi.

Aasma Yusuf left her house to buy some sweets from a nearby shop on Shah Waliullah Road in Baghdadi. A speeding truck ran over her and tried to speed away. People at the spot intercepted and caught the driver, who was later, handed to the police. The driver was identified as Latif. The police also impounded the truck responsible for the fatal accident.
