Friendship series enters into final stages

LAHORE, June 17: The Friendship series between Punjab Tennis Academy (PTA) and Chandigarh Tennis Academy (CTA) entered the final stages in different events at the Punjab Lawn Tennis Association grass courts, in Bagh-i-Jinnah on Friday.

Dig Vija Singh, Shaleen Chandra, Heera Ashiq, Faizan Khurram, Quratul Ain, Nabiha Haq, Rao Iftikhar and Rai Zahid Zafar have reached the final of their respective events after winning their Pro-set (one set) matches.

The players from Punjab Tennis Academy dominated the second day of the tournament also.

In the ladies singles’ the U-18 national champion , Quratul Ain and Nabiha entered the final. Quratul Ain beat Ramsha 8-1 while Nabiha outclassed Saba Aziz 8-1.

In the U-14 category boys semifinals, Heera Ashiq carved out a win against Faizan Khurram 8-0.

In the U-14 girls semifinal, Shaleen Chandra (CTA) thrashed Muneeza Malik 8-0 to reach the final.

The second prefinals between Zarnab and Sonali Bansal could not be completed due to poor light.

The match will resume on Saturday morning and the winner will face Shaleen Chandra in the final.

In the first semifinal of U-12 category, Dig Vijay Singh humbled Ahmad Babar 8-0 while in the second semifinal Faizan Khurram defeated Mohsin 8-2.

In the seniors doubles, Nouman Aleem and Laeeq Pirzada entered the final defeating Sohail Iqbal and Naveed Najum in a hard fought match 8-6 while duo of Rao Iftikhar and Rai Zahid

Zafar was given walk over as Hafeez Sheikh and Saeed failed to turn up.
