ISLAMABAD, June 17: Muhammad Ikram Chaudhry, the legal attorney for Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, on Friday feared for the life of Dr Khan and demanded his production in the Supreme Court.

Quoting news reports, he said Dr Khan was provided intensive medical care on Thursday after he suffered serious cardiac problems.

Speaking at a press conference at the Supreme Court building here, he said Dr Khan had reportedly felt chest pain three days ago and doctors advised him angiography, however his angiography was not carried out immediately, which led to the deterioration of his condition.

He said a Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) scan be carried out forthwith. Ikram Chaudhry said that Dr Khan was being detained illegally for the last one and half years, due to which he was suffering from severe stress and hypertension.

Responding to a query, he said during the hearing of Dr Khan’s petition, he had requested the Supreme Court to either issue his production orders or manage to get a meeting of the Attorney General as well him (Ikram) with Dr Khan.

However, he said, the apex court assigned its former registrar M.A. Farooqi, who was now in the custody of NAB for corruption charges, to meet with Dr Khan and know about his health. Mr Ikram alleged that the registrar had made a fake report, which was produced before the apex court.

He demanded Dr Khan’s production in the Supreme Court, as he was a national asset and the nation wanted to know about his whereabouts as well as health.— PPI
