SIALKOT, June 17: Two labourers drowned in the BRB Canal in Daska on Friday afternoon. Usman, 24, and Darwaish, 25, had jumped into the canal from a bridge for taking bath to beat the heat. They belonged to Jhang and were working as labourers with a furniture factory.
On June 13, two schoolboys, Waris Suleman and Kashif Bashir, of Miani Pathana village, Head Marala, had drowned in the river Tavi near Bajwat.
GRID STATION: Industrialists and exporters have demanded installation of more transformers and establishment of a new grid station in view of the growing demand of electricity and to reduce load on the existing transformers in the city.
In a representation to the Wapda chairman, Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Qaisar Shabbir said the new grid station should be established on the Sialkot-Daska Road near Ghueinky village. The road had become important in the region, and power was supplied to this region from the industrial estate grid station which was far away. As a result, there were frequent interruptions and fluctuation in power supply. Owing to this problem, work remained suspended in these factories for hours which delayed export orders, he said.
He said the grid station would facilitate industrialists and domestic consumers.
He also demanded waiving off installation charges of Wapda service line to Sialkot International Airport to facilitate early completion of project. Presently, service lines are being installed for which the SIAL had to pay Rs10 million.
Mr Shabbir said in some areas, power lines had outlived and were passing even in front of the houses. He said special attention should be paid to the menace, and the distribution lines be standardized. — Correspondent
