MIRPURKHAS, June 17: Six people were killed and ten others seriously injured when a speedy truck collided head on with a pick-up near Jamrao bridge on Mirpurkhas-Sanghar road, 17 kilometres off here in the jurisdiction of Dilber Maher police station in the wee hours of Friday morning.
A group of people from the Kandiari Village were on their way to their home in the pick-up (KG-6876) after attending a religious gathering in Mirpurkhas.
It collided with a truck (C-1961) coming from the opposite direction and then fell into a deep ditch.
As a result, Abdul Ghani Shar, 60, his son Hafiz Qurban Ali, 19, Abdul Malik Shar, 52 and Mohammad Shareef Kumbhar, 42, died on the spot. Mohammad Aslam Kumbhar breathed his last at the Civil Hospital, Mirpurkhas. The pesh imam (prayer leader) of the Phuladyion town, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor, who was shifted to the Civil Hospital, Hyderabad, (CHH) also died there.
The bodies and injured were taken to the Civil Hospital, Mirpurkhas.
The injured included Bangal Khan Shar, Mohammad Sadiq Shar, Mohammad Yaseen Shar, Rehmatullah Narejo, Yar Mohammad Brohi, Mir Mohammad Brohi, Hafiz Hamadullah, Ghulam Ali and Mohammad Anwar.
After receiving information, different religious leaders and ulema also reached the hospital.
The bodies were handed over to their heirs after the post-mortem. Police impounded the truck and registered a case against the unknown driver who fled after the accident.
Kandiari town remained closed on Friday to mourn the tragic incident.
