HYDERABAD, June 17: Activists of the Sindh National Party (dissident group) took out a protest procession from Hyderabad Chowk to the local press club here on Friday. They were protesting against issuance of NICs to foreigners, demolition of ancient Sindhi villages in Karachi and other schemes and projects which they said were against interests of Sindh.
They were wearing shrouds as a symbol of sacrifice.
Speaking on the occasion, SNP convener Anwar Khoso said his party would fight against what he called anti-Sindh projects and traitors. He said today’s procession was the beginning of a protest movement against the projects.
He announced that the party activists would stage a sit-in on the Moro-Dadu bridge on July 5 and close roads leading to Punjab.
Party deputy convener Ashraf Noonari alleged that resources of Sindh were being looted since 1947 and now Sindh was being deprived of water of the River Indus.
He blamed the Punjab establishment, the rulers and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement for destroying Sindh.
He called upon people of Sindh, including members of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, to disassociate themselves from the MQM.
SNP chief organizer Wahid Sangrasi, Yousuf Sarang, Shabbir Inqalabi and Mir Ghulam Nabi Magsi also spoke on the occasion.
The gathering adopted several resolutions, demanding expulsion of outsiders from Sindh and an end to demolition of ancient Sindhi villages in Karachi.
It demanded that the NFC award should be announced on the basis of income generation and production, employment right of indigenous population in public and private sector enterprises be accepted, the decision to privatize the PTCL be rescinded and Rangers and the Frontier Constabulary be withdrawn from Sindh because they were a financial burden on the province.
Another resolution demanded that construction of the Kalabagh dam and the greater Thal canal should be stopped forthwith, the decision to open the Khokhrapar route be withdrawn and arrested leaders of the SNP, Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz and the People’s Party Parliamentarians be released immediately.
The gathering also called for arresting people involved in tribal wars and abolishing the contract system for catching fish.
INQUIRY DEMANDED: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (dissident group) has demanded that the governor should order an inquiry into alleged irregularities in the conduct of intermediate examinations and leakage of papers.
The demand was made by the central action committee of the SPLA at a meeting held here on Thursday.
The meeting, presided over by Prof Liaquat Aziz, demanded action against corrupt officials.
It decided to publish the SPLA magazine “Jagirta” (awakening) every month and appointed a three-member publication committee. It appealed to college teachers to send their articles for publication in the magazine by the 20th of every month.
The meeting demanded that a ban should be imposed on subject guides, a book bank for students be established at every college, scholarships be awarded at the degree college level and a model college be established in each district.
