KARACHI, June 17: Pakistan People’s Party workers on Friday vowed to foil the regime’s conspiracy of eliminating their party chairperson from political arena and reiterated their resolve to bring her back to the country to lead the country once again.
They expressed their resolve at a public gathering organised to observe the first death anniversary of the PPP leader Munawar Hussain Suhrawardy.
Ms Benazir Bhutto and her spouse Asif Ali Zardari in their messages paid tribute to Munanwar Suhrawardy and alleged that through a systematic planning all those PPP leaders who are dedicated to the party and who are men of ideas are being physically eliminated.
Ms Bhutto reiterated her resolve to return and expressed concern over the government’s failure to apprehend killers of Munawar Suhrawardy despite the passage of a year.
“One whole year has passed without the arrest of his murderers or even the slightest movement on the investigation of his brutal murder” said Ms Bhutto in her message, emphasizing that “Munawar was my brother just like Mir Murtaza and Shah Nawaz. His fate has been no different from that of my other two brothers. The millions who continue to mourn my brothers clearly identify the hands that eliminated them. But the killers roam about freely protected by massive cover-ups”.
She recalled that ever since he joined the party in 1977 as a teenager, not a single day of his life passed when he was not struggling against tyranny and injustice.
Mr Asif Ali Zardari noted that Karachi PPP lost more than 100 dedicated workers in the 90s. Alhamdo Lillah all of them were unarmed. None of them died with a gun in his hand. This is a shining testimony of our firm commitment to peace.
These workers were eliminated to cripple the party in Karachi. But it staged a grand comeback in Karachi mainly through the untiring efforts of its young leaders, like Abdullah Murad and Munawar Suharwardy. Within months of one another they were martyred.
Mr Zardari pointed out that killers of Munawar Shaheed roam about freely.
He said that mafias ruled Sindh. Elected members of the assembly, and highly respected elders like comrade Jam Saqi and his esteemed wife were being picked up in fake cases by the gangster administration. Karachi had been turned into a battleground by those very elements sitting in the government and backed by the agencies. Innocent citizens are being killed in the crossfire.”
Speaking on the occasion, provincial chief of the PPP, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, leader of the opposition in Sindh Assembly Nisar Khuhro, central leader N.D.Khan, Nafees Siddiqui, Naheed Khan, Rafiq Engineer Muzaffar Shujra, Hafiz Taqi, Basharat Mirza and Zain Ansari said that Mr Suhrawardy remained true to the ideals of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and displayed exemplary courage and fortitude in championing these ideals.
He continued to struggle tirelessly for rights and freedoms of the people, for peace, justice and equity, for pulling the country and its people out of their abject poverty and backwardness.
They said that Munawar wanted a peaceful and prosperous Karachi and Pakistan and worked towards that ideal selflessly. They slammed the government for failing to apprehend the killers of Suhrawardy and Abdullah Murad.
They all noted that besides being committed to the political ideals of ZAB, Munawar was essentially a family man.
