BAHAWALPUR, June 16: A union council nazim and his companion were arrested on Thursday by Hasilpur police for their alleged involvement in a double murder. Pallah union council Nazim Inamullah Khan Burki, along with his companion—- were arrested in connection with the double murder which took place yesterday by one Abdul Ghaffar.
One Ghaffar was allegedly made hostage at the outhouse of Pullah UC Nazim Inamullah Khan Burki who is also PML-N vice-president for Hasilpur tehsil. Later, Ghaffar’s brother-in-law Manzoor Ahmed Irfan and Muhammad Ilyas were killed in a crossfire over the issue.
The murder case has been registered on the application of the deceased Ilyas’s mother.
Others who have been nominated in the FIR include Fayyaz Ahmed Gujjar, Munshi Riaz Ghazi, Muhammad Javed, Altaf Hussain Ghazi, Saed Ahmed, Muhammad Yasin and Abdul Sattar Ghazi.
Meanwhile, opposition leader in the district council Mian Sajjad Hussain Peerzada, brother of MNA Mian Riaz Hussain Peerzada, and his cousin and Tamewali tehsil Nazim Mian Kazim Hussain Peerzada have alleged that the UC nazim had been implicated in the murder case for political reasons. They demanded that the case be withdrawn.
HIV/AIDS: US consulate’s Public Affairs Officer Rex Maser has stressed the need to launch an HIV/AIDS awareness campaign and training programme for the teachers in the district to protect the youth against the killer disease.
He was talking during his visit to the office of the AIDS Prevention Society of Pakistan’s local chapter.
The society’s secretary-general Sabir Farhat on the occasion informed Mr Maser that so far teachers of fifty higher-secondary schools had been imparted the training to create awareness on the issue among schoolchildren.
ARRESTED: Police arrested 15 youths for indulging in motorcycle-wheeling and over-speeding.
DPO Arif Nawaz while directing the police to take stern action against such youths has also asked the parents to tell their wards to refrain from such activities.
Meanwhile, the DPO during his surprise raids on Yazman and cantonment police stations suspended two ASIs Ghulam Hussain and Muhammad Iqbal, besides Moharrar Abdul Ghaffar, for negligence in performing their duty.
