Demand for action against landlord

SANGHAR, June 16: The staff of six irrigation sub-divisions continued their protest against a landlord and his farm manager for the third day in Tando Adam on Thursday. More than 50 employees of the irrigation department have established a protest camp outside the Tando Adam Press Club. They demanded arrest of landlord Gul Mohammad Makrani and his farm manager Balwal Bheel.

They alleged that the landlord had beaten up sub-darogha Ghulam Murtaza Mashori and opened fire to scare him. They said they had lodged an FIR but no arrest had been made.

They also accused the landlord of stealing water by tampering with a module at the Mashaikh Hothi minor.

They regretted that instead of taking action against the landlord, sub-engineer Syed Gul Mohammad Shah was suspended.

The staff of Saeedabad, Hala, Shahdadpur, Tando Adam-I and II irrigation sub-divisions have stopped regulation of several branches and minors and lowered water levels.

As a result, water level in the Rohri Canal has risen to a dangerous level.—Correspondent
