SC wants wage award case disposed of within 6 weeks
ISLAMABAD, June 16: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court directed the Sindh High Court on Thursday to dispose of the Seventh Wage Board Award case field by the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) within six weeks. The bench comprising Chief Justice-designate, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Hamid Ali Mirza and Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar issued the directive after hearing the counsel of petitioners and respondents.
Mohammad Akram Sheikh appeared on behalf of the 74 employees of daily Jang, Rawalpindi, who have filed a petition against the stay order granted by the Sindh High Court regarding implementation of the award. Abdul Hafeez Pirzada represented Independent Newspapers Corporation Pvt Limited.
The bench said the Supreme Court “cannot hear this petition against the interim orders of the Sindh High Court.”
The Court issued directive on the request of the counsel of the petitioner, Mohammad Akram Sheikh.—APP
