Sindh’s stand on NFC award unchanged, says Sardar

KARACHI, June 16: Sindh Senior Minister for Finance Syed Sardar Ahmed on Thursday described as incorrect the reported statement of Dr Salman Shah, adviser to the prime minister, that the Sindh government had changed its stance on the NFC award. In a policy statement on the floor of the Sindh assembly, Sardar Ahmed referred to the statement of Salman Shah, in which he was purported to have said that differences between the provinces on the NFC award had minimized and the Sindh government had also softened its stance on the issue.

The finance minister declared that Sindh continued to adhere to its stand that the NFC award should be given on the basis of multiple indicators.

“The statement given by Dr Salman Shah is incorrect and I reiterate that we want the award on the basis of multiple criteria— population, backwardness and revenue generation.”

Leader of the opposition Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and Jam Saifullah Dharejo, another opposition member, endorsed his statement.

They urged that a joint resolution be passed against the purported statement.—APP
