PCB bans on RCA official, player

By Our Sports Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 15: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday slapped one year bans on the president of Rawalpindi Cricket Association (RCA) Masood Anwar and the city’s “under-19” captain Ali Sarfraz. Following a protest lodged by Islamabad that Ali was overage and therefore should not have been playing in the on-going National Under-19 Championship, the PCB handed out the punishment. The board also announced that full match points will be awarded to the opposing team.

The ruling means that Islamabad with a total of 20 points will emerge as the region’s under-19 champions while Rawalpindi will be left with only four.

In a letter addressed to Masood PCB said that they had verified the documents of Ali and it was clear that the player was overage.

“You have violated the rules and as per rule 5 (a) and (c) of the playing conditions and rules for domestic tournaments 2005-06, you and your player Ali have been banned for one year with full match points to be awarded to your opponents.”

Masood however said that although he was aware of the ban yet he had not been officially intimated by the board. He refused to comment on the decision.

A representative Islamabad Cricket Association Abdul Rauf Mirza termed the decision as “historic” and said the PCB had set a good example to enforce rules and regulations.
