GUJRANWALA, June 15: An FIA (passport cell) team arrested a human smuggler here on Wednesday. The team also raided various places and recovered 52 people being sent abroad through Quetta and Iran borders. Reports said Rukhsar Khan and his three accomplices allegedly received Rs300,000 to Rs500,000 from various people to send them Greece and other European countries. The accused used to collect passports, ID cards and other documents and board people on Quetta-bound train.
The raiding team have arrested Rukhsar Khan while his three accomplices managed to escape.
A case has been registered against them and further investigations are under way.
Power supply: The power supply to Kamoki, Eminabad and Theri Sansi grid stations was restored on Wednesday through some alternative sources on the directive of Gepco chief executive Brig Saifullah Khalid.
The power supply was suspended owing to the collapse of four towers of Gujranwala transmission line and 132KV Kala Shah Kaku after a powerful dust storm hit the area some days back.
This was revealed in a press release issued by the Gepco here on Wednesday.
A Gepco spokesman said that all the line staff and engineers had been asked to restore the power supply within shortest period if the thunder storm became the cause of the suspension.
FACTORY FIRE: A thread factory was reduced to ashes after it caught fire on Rata Road in Satellite Town here on Wednesday.
Reports said the fire broke out when someone threw a burnt cigarette on some thread bundles. As a result, the fire engulfed the entire machinery and stock of thread, reducing them to ashes. Fire fighters and workers doused the fire after a struggle of some two hours. The loss was estimated to be around Rs2.5 million.
