SIALKOT, June 15: State Minister for Defence Zahid Hamid on Wednesday visited the site for army’s new Cantonment near Pasrur. Giving a briefing, the officials concerned said as many as 3,000 acres for Cantonment and 150 acres for a cadet college would be acquired in Pasrur tehsil in July.

He said the timely completion of these projects would open new vistas of socio-economic development in Pasrur tehsil.

GRANT: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has approved a special grant of Rs610 million for reconstruction and widening of the Sialkot-Eimanabad Road.

MPA Chaudhry Ansar Iqbal told newsmen here that the work on this project would start on July 1.

He said the construction of this road would reduce a 25km distance between Sialkot and Lahore, besides minimizing traffic rush on the Sialkot-Daska-Gujranwala Road. He said the chief minister had also approved several water supply schemes for PP-129’s union councils.

MPA Chaudhry Mumtaz Ali said the CM had also approved widening of the BRB Canal bridge on the main Daska-Gujranwala-Sialkot Road in Daska city. He said the narrow bridge would soon be converted into a dual carriageway bridge.

Meanwhile, the construction of 26km long Sialkot-Sambrial-Wazirabad Road is under way to convert this road into a dual carriageway with a cost of Rs860 million.
