PESHAWAR, June 15: The NWFP government has constituted a high level committee to suggest a mechanism to curtail the powers of tehsildar and patwaris. An announcement to this effect was made by Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani in his speech during a function.

He said the move was an effort to rid people of problems caused by these officials and put an end to their corrupt practices.

He said that the provincial cabinet, in its meeting on Tuesday, had constituted a committee which would be headed by provincial Revenue Minister Maulana Asmat Ullah.

Other members would include provincial Law Minister Malik Zafar-e-Azam, Minister for Sports and Culture Raja Faisal Zaman, secretaries of the finance, excise and taxation

and agriculture departments and senior member, board of revenue.

The committee, he added, had been asked to submit its recommendations in one month.
