Goldsmiths robbed of 4.5kg ornaments

By Shafiq Ahmad

PESHAWAR, June 15: Two Afghan goldsmiths were deprived of 4.5kg gold ornaments worth around Rs5 million by four robbers on the Hospital Road near Sarafa Bazaar on Wednesday morning. Afghan gold traders Usman and Haji Mohammad were going in a taxi to the Torkham border town to hand over the ornaments to their business partners who were to carry the consignment to Afghanistan.

After collecting the gold ornaments from their workshop situated at the Gold Tower in Sarafa Bazaar they left for the border town at 6am.

They had only travelled a few furlongs when the bandits armed with Kalashnikovs intercepted their taxi and snatched the ornaments from them.

The bandits also beat the traders with rifle butts when they tried to put up resistance, police officials said.

The Kabuli police station has registered an FIR and arrested the taxi driver.

Usman and Haji Mohammad told the police that the robbers drove away in their white car.

He said they went towards the walled-city after depriving them of the gold ornaments.
