Hammad’s unbeaten century steers Islamabad home

ISLAMABAD, June 14: Promising Hammad Kiyani’s unbeaten century spurred Islamabad to a five-wicket victory against Jhelum in the PCB National Under-19 Championship on Tuesday at the Diamond Cricket Ground. Hammad, who had also cracked a century in the previous game against Attock, hit 118 off 132 balls with 18 boundaries.

Islamabad, 77-3 at the start of the day, owed victory to Hammad who along with Naeem Anjum (76) shared a fifth wicket stand that yielded 142 runs.

Atif Shahzad was the top Jhelum wicket-taker with three for 80.

Rawalpindi flogged Chakwal by 423 runs at the Rawalpindi Stadium, right arm paceman Mohammad Farrukh being the wrecker-in-chief with six for 46.

Replying to Rawalpindi’s mammoth 545, Chakwal were bundled out for only 122 in 35.5 overs with Mohammad Jamshed making 44.

Our Sports Correspondent adds from Lahore: Ali Abbas scored an unbeaten century to propel West Zone Whites to a seven-wicket win against East Zone Blues.

Opener Abbas struck a 182-ball 106 with 18 fours and one six. He added 158 for the unbroken fourth-wicket stand with Shahab Basharat, who made 86 with 11 fours and two sixes as West Zone Whites reached 299 for three in 52 overs, after resuming the innings at 25-0.

Skipper Nasir Jamshed blasted 120 to guide West Zone Blues to an eight-wicket victory over North Zone Blues.

Nasir, who slammed 14 boundaries in his 142-ball knock, shared an unfinished third-wicket partnership of 130 with Usman Salahuddin (58).

Half-centuries by Waqas Ahmed, Abid Ali and Ahmed Butt steered East Zone Whites to a six-wicket win over North Zone Whites in a high-scoring match.

Waqas remained top-scorer with 84 (12 fours, one six), Abid scored 80 (nine fours) and Ahmed Butt an unbeaten 73 (10 fours), as East Zone Whites overhauled a challenging winning total of 338 for the loss of four wickets in 76 overs, after resuming at 14 for no loss.

At Model Town Club Ground: West Zone Whites beat East Zone Blues by seven wickets.
