FAISALABAD, June 14: The Powerlooms Association has threatened to close down units in protest against what they called threatening attitude of some labour leaders and failure of the administration to resolve the dispute between the industrialists and workers. Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday Association’s leaders, Malik Gulzar, Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Mushtaq and others claimed they were already paying salaries to their employees according to the rules, besides implementing the government instructions in this regard.

They alleged that some of the so-called labour leaders were trying to disrupt the industrial peace in the city for their ulterior motives.

They said police had failed to curb lawlessness in and around the industrial units.

They alleged that despite all out efforts, the police had not so far registered cases against persons who looted cash at gunpoint from a factory.

They demanded government action against the so-called labour leaders who they said were trying to create law and order problem in the city.

On the other hand, the Powerloom Workers Federation and Industrial Workers Union have accused the factory owners of launching a misleading campaign against the police, administration and labour leaders.

They said the workers of about 95 per cent powerlooms were not being paid according to the rules and none of the factory owners had got labourers enrolled with the Social Security Institution and other government departments to save taxes.

They vowed to continue their protest movement till the implementation of the instructions of the DCO issued in favour of the workers.
