KARACHI, June 14: Four people including three activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were injured during a heavy exchange of fire between the activists of the Sunni Tehreek (ST) and the MQM in Ranchore Line on Tuesday. Following the clash, an office of the ST was ransacked, and two cars and a motorcycle were torched by unknown people.
Sector in-charge of the MQM Imran Pasha, Wajid and Riaz ur Rehman were injured in the firing.
A 10-year-old boy, who was passing through the area identified as Adeel suffered a bullet in the head. All the injured were taken to the Civil Hospital where tension prevailed.
Eyewitnesses said firing lasted for over an hour, with youths roaming the streets and carrying different types of arms with impunity.
A heavy police deployment was made in the area following the firing. However, despite police presence, miscreants set fire to two vehicles in the area.
As firing broke out, all commercial activities in the area were suspended.
A cameraman of a TV channel, who had managed to shoot the firing taking placing between the two groups, was deprived of his footage at gunpoint by armed youths.
Ironically, the incident occurred in front of a senior police officer, who chose not to act, the cameraman claimed.
According to eyewitnesses, activists of the ST took positions atop a building and fired at the MQM activists who were taking positions on the ground.
Meanwhile in a separate incident, the bullet-riddled body of a young man was recovered from Nishtar Road Tuesday morning.
Police said the body was recovered from a vacant plot at Nishtar Road in the limits of the Garden police station.
The victim was identified as Nazar Muhammad, 35. Police are investigating the case.
The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
