ISLAMABAD, June 13: The government has allocated over Rs381.77 million for construction of the new campus and other projects of the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2005-06.The new campus of the university, which is being shifted from Rawalpindi to Islamabad, will be completed within two years in sector H-12.
The contract for construction of the new campus has been awarded to a private company, National Constructions (NC), which was the lowest bidder among the three other companies.
The new campus would have two buildings, each of four-storey, at a covered area of 76,000 square feet.
Sources in the company said the design of the buildings had been prepared by expert architects.
They said that the university would have three auditoriums located between the academic blocks and equipped with all the latest requirements.
Of the total allocation, a sum of Rs277.075 million will be spent on internal and external development of land for the new campus. The project will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs477.3 million.
For the construction of the main offices and High-Tech Postgraduate Science and Technology Institute, a sum of Rs50 million has been earmarked in the PSDP. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs956.5 million.
An allocation of Rs4.719 million has been made for strengthening and upgradation of the Research Centre for Biotechnology at the Army Medical College, Rawalpindi. The project will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs36.3 million.
The government has also allocated Rs50 million for the establishment of Information Technology and Management Sciences Department at the university.
The project will be completed at a cost of Rs2.09 billion.
