ISLAMABAD, June 13: Nauman Ali and Muhammad Ibrahim scored blazing centuries as Rawalpindi had Chakwal against the wall on the first day of their PCB National Under-19 Championship match at the Pindi Cricket Stadium. An explosive innings of 172 off just 145 balls by Nauman and Ibrahim who scored 122 from 107 deliveries propelled Rawalpindi to a mighty 545 in 83.4 overs.
Rawalpindi’s Mohammad Farrukh then dealt a double blow to leave Chakwal tottering at 20-2 in the four overs before the close.
But it were the batting heroics of Nauman and Ibrahim that dominated the day. Nauman hammered 29 fours and two sixes in his impressive innings while his team-mate belted 20 boundaries and a six. Asif Khan’s half century was overshadowed by their sizzling knocks.
Chakwal left arm paceman Mohammad Yasir captured four for 98.
At the Diamond Cricket Ground, Jhelum were able to post a respectable 276, Shahid Imran leading the way with an unbeaten 82. Gibran Azam also did well with the bat, scoring 77.
Spinner Imad Wasim continued to his good form and claimed four for 74 while Sudheer Khan snared 3-45.
Islamabad chase seemed to have run into problems as they were 77 for three in 18 overs by the close of play. Atif Shahzad struck twice to rock the home side.

Our Sports Correspondent adds from Lahore: A fine century by Mehroz Khan enabled North Zone Whites to pile up 337 for nine in the stipulated 90 overs against East Zone Whites.
Mehroz scored 117 off 232 balls with 15 fours as North Zone set a challenging total for the rivals. Off-spinner Usman Malik claimed five for 97.
By close of play East Zone were 14 without loss.
A five-wicket haul by medium-pacer Ghulam Mustafa helped West Zone Blues restrict North Zone Blues to 229 in 62.8 overs. Mustafa took five for 81.
For North Zone Blues Irfan Pathan scored 59.
West Zone Blues were strongly placed at stumps as they reached 149 for two in 35 overs with Nasir Jamshed batting on 75.
Off-spinner Awais Asif grabbed five for 68 as East Zone Blues made 298 against West Zone Whites.Mohammad Shafiq scored 65 with 10 boundaries.
At stumps, West Zone Whites were 25 for no loss.
