DADU, June 13: The Mehar police on Monday arrested four alleged bandits following a police encounter on the Larkana-Mehar section of the Indus Highway, according to the DPO of Dadu. The encounter took place near Mehar when the alleged dacoits, led by Ahmed Ali Chandio tried to commit dacoity on the highway. Mehar police rushed to the spot and surrounded the gang which led to an exchange of fire for about one hour, culminating in the arrest of four bandits.

Those arrested include Ahmed Ali, Ghulam Nabi, Amir Ali and Manthar Chandio. One Kalashnikov, one double barrel gun, one pistol, one single barrel gun, 20 cartridges and 50 live bullets were recovered from them. Three motorbikes they had used were also seized.

The DPO told journalists that dacoits belonged to Larkana district and around 40 cases were lodged against them in Larkana and Dadu districts.
