By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 13: The governor of Sindh, Dr Ishratul Ibad, has asked the Sindh Education Department to ensure en bloc posting of teachers withdrawn from the two recently denationalized colleges in the city. During his meeting with a delegation of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers’ Association (SPLA) at the Governor’s House, on Monday, the governor observed that the SNE (sanctioned number of employees) of the denationalized St Joseph’s College for Women and St Patrick’s College should not be split, but be kept intact and utilized for the newly established colleges of the city government.

A participant of the meeting said that Dr Ibad agreed to the SPLA’s suggestion for posting of staff of the two denationalized colleges in question in some new colleges together and asked the education department to take necessary action in this regard.

The seven-member delegation, which was headed by Prof Manzoor Hussain Chishti, apprised the governor about its concerns over different issues related to education boards and the Sindh Education Department and requested him to order for corrective measures, added the participant.

Sindh Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, Principal Secretary Brig (retd) Akhtar Zamin, Secretary Education Hashim Leghari assisted the governor, while the SPLA delegation included Prof Riaz Ahsan, Prof Mashooq Baloch, Prof Muharram Kulhoro, Prof Athar Mirza and others.

Following SPLA’s representation on the recently carried out exercise of transfer and posting of college teachers who had been promoted to higher grades during the last one month, the chief secretary said there would be no victimization in the teacher’s transfers and postings, said official sources.

It was also observed that in case of any complaint, transfer of staff concerned should not be considered as any remedial, but action should be taken in line with the Efficiency and Discipline Rules of the government.

In regard to enhance the remuneration of college teachers against examinations works, Dr Ibad made it clear that decision regarding the increase in the examination honoraria taken some weeks back was for all the educational boards of Sindh and it would be applicable in all the boards.

The governor also promised that he would ask the boards to consider upward revision in the answer script assessment charges as well.

He also issued directives for teaching simple (salees) Sindhi up to the intermediate level.

Dr Ibad also agreed to a proposal that teachers who taught the Urdu (salees) subject in colleges should be allowed to assess the answer scripts as well, irrespective of the fact that they possessed a master degree in Urdu or Sindhi, claimed a SPLA member.

The governor was of the view that all possible steps would be taken for the enhancement in the standards of education in Sindh.

He told the teacher’s representatives that all efforts which may help promote the cause of education and bring improvement in quality, would be welcomed.

According to an official source, the governor promised to consider SPLA’s demand for increasing the teacher’s representation in educational boards and Board of Studies of Universities.
