Swede to lead UN Assembly

UNITED NATIONS, June 13: The UN General Assembly on Monday elected by acclamation Sweden’s ambassador to the United States, Jan Eliason, as president of the 191-member General Assembly for the 60th session. Mr Eliason will preside over the UN summit in September. Over 150 heads of state and government are expected to attend the summit.

Mr Eliason replaces Jean Ping of Gabon.
